About us!

Our story!

Hey! I’m Lauren, the owner of BOSS BABES NAILS. I am 24, a proud mum to my beautiful son & an absolute fashion fanatic, especially anything Y2K! Not to mention, I am a massive foodie! I love trying new dishes and cuisines with my partner, we are absolute suckers for a delicious takeaway🤭.

Let me tell you why I started my business…

I first discovered my love for beauty when I was around 8 years old. My mum had recently completed a nail course which covered manicures, acrylic nails, gel nails and even minx! Oh my gosh, we looooveddd Minx! For anyone that isn’t familiar with Minx, they were essentially heat activated full nail stickers with the cutest designs on. Most popular being full silver mirror! So I guess you could say that my mum introduced me to the world of nails at a very young age. Some of my most favourite memories with her are us doing each other’s Minx on our toes. I owe a lot to her because she encouraged me to try doing nails and often I would borrow (steal) her box of nail stuff to try out on my friends. Can you believe I forgot all about that and a few years later started a career in Law? If you knew me now you would be so shocked to hear that! Of course, the career didn’t last long and I ended up working for a popular beauty supply store, it was here that I was surrounded by beauty and wanted nothing more than to be like the beauticians I would serv day in day out.
At this point, I was living with my partner and he is the second person I want to shout out because he told me “it is not embarrassing to try” and from then I was determined to find my passion. I tried everything from tattooing to graphic design. Nothing really stuck until I tried acrylic nails.

During lockdown, I taught myself everything there is to know about nails & I developed a successful business over the coming years. In 2022, I placed third in the Nail Technician of the Year award, this was a massive achievement for me as I had struggled finding my feet after having my son. It wasn’t that I didn’t enjoy doing client’s nails, it was that I had little to no creative outlet. I preferred to do simple designs so I could be with my son quicker. What I didn’t realise was, not having a creative outlet massively affected my confidence and drive!
As any new mum will know, you often put yourself last after having a baby. You’re so consumed with looking after this little bundle of joy that you forget about you! Before you know it, your self esteem is so low. I knew I had to make a change so I started taking care of myself more. I’d have self care baths, get my lashes done, hair too but I couldn’t deal with the commitment of having acrylic nails on. Not only would it take hours to do but removing them was an absolute mission! I needed to think of an alternative.

How?!

I wanted nails with a design that would come off easily and could be applied in little to no time. I already had ‘some’ experience with Press On Nails so I got to work creating some cute sets for me to wear on days where the clouds felt pretty heavy. I would feel uplifted and more like myself when I wore them. Soon after, I started realising that I thoroughly enjoyed making Press On Nails and I would look forward to making more. Doing actual clients felt like a drag. My heart just wasn’t in it anymore. After a failed few months trying to make nails work in an actual salon, I made the decision to close up and focus solely on Press On Nails. This gave me so much more freedom as I could make the nails whenever I could and spend as much time with my son as possible. I set up a Shopify website (which you’re on right now!) with the support of my Dad and started working out all the kinks that comes with starting a product based business.

Our Mission Statement

The biggest thing I have realised since creating my brand is how much I want to help people. Especially people who have been in the same position as me. I want everyone to feel beautiful, uplifted and confident no matter what situation they are in. That was the reasoning behind the name ‘BOSS BABES’ because I want everyone to feel like a BOSS when wearing our nails!
Our mission is to help everyone feel their authentic baddie selves! We want to be able to help people of all backgrounds to fulfil their goals and not let any situation hold them back from living their life to the fullest.

What does the future have in store for BOSS BABES NAILS?

Oh gosh, hopefully expansion! I would love to be able to hire staff especially people who are in a similar situation to me. It would be amazing to support them on their journey to success. I’d be so proud! I would love to create a community that acts as a safe space for people. Anyone of any walk of life would be welcome to receive support, love and kindness! Expanding our product range is definitely on the cards too, it would be so great to hire other artists and work as  collective. Whatever the future brings, I am just so proud of my little business. I hope you stick around and join me on this wild, amazing journey that I am so grateful to be a part of!
